A Getaway Staycation!
Leweck Sporthotel in Bourscheid
So you want to get away for some much-deserved rest and relaxation but circumstances won't allow it and you're feeling a bit "stuck" in your everyday routine. I think I may have found just the answer... About a 45-minute drive from the city, there is a little oasis called Leweck Sporthotel. I was a little put off by the idea of a 'sports hotel' to be honest, coming from the UK, we don't really have these, you either do sport or have a rest in a nice hotel, it was a little confusing. Nonetheless, I figured it was just a difference in languages and culture so I packed as if it were a little relaxing staycation. The RoomAs we are not currently allowed to eat in restaurants I made sure to book a room that had a dining area so that we could enjoy our meals properly. Our accommodation happened to come with a kitchen which I hadn't realised, there was a fully functioning stove, fridge, countertop, you could definitely have made your own meal here too! They have quite a few options depending on how many you are, we were a couple with our toddler (I've included a section at the end of this post with tips if you bring young children with you).
The FoodThe food was far better than I had expected, there was a good selection, a few vegetarian options and a kids menu too. They have a good cocktail/mocktail list and you definitely have as many options as you would if you were dining in their restaurant. Everything was organised via WhatsApp which we absolutely loved, you simply message them with your food order, what time you want it and they will take care of the rest. You would expect that there would be a long wait for our meals but they were always timely. A continental breakfast is delivered to the room each morning. We happened to pack a bag of fresh fruit which we would now really recommend, the meals are heavy which is typical of Luxembourgish cuisine so if you are not used to this, some fresh fruit and veg provides some light relief!
What to doThe pool at the hotel is nice and big and is surrounded by lounge chairs, a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The hotel implements a restriction that there cannot be more than 12 people in the pool at once but while we were there, there were so few guests around the pool that we were not even 12 beside the pool in total, so it was perfect. There is a spa and wellness centre but you have to book your treatments in advance, they get very booked up on the weekend so this should be the first thing you check if you are hoping to get a treatment. There is a well-equiped gym as well as basketball courts, there are a lot of sports activities (so the name was fitting after all!). We happened to be there when the weather was pretty awful but the grounds and there are farm animals for visiting which is a really nice activity for the kids so don't forget to pack your walking boots and a coat if you would like to take advantage of the lovely rural surroundings.
Kids This is definitely a staycation for the whole family, there is an indoor playground for younger children which has lots of soft play equipment, playground toys and various other activities to keep them occupied. We were really impressed by the playroom facilities and think that all family-friendly hotels should think of this! For older kids and adults there is an arcade room next door to the playroom, they had everything from table tennis to air hockey tables and basketball hoop simulators, this will definitely keep you or your teens entertained on a rainy day! (Bring coins for the basketball simulator!) They were really prepared for families of all ages, they left the high chair in our room for our entire stay which was so handy to pop our toddler down whenever she was having a meal or a snack. The cot provided is a really comfortable one with a children's pillow and children's sized duvet. There isn't a children's pool which is a shame but other than that, they've thought of everything!
Now that I know that there is such a nice little retreat for the whole family just 45 minutes from the city, I'll definitely be going back regularly whenever we all feel we need a break and some really good food! My advice is to pack everything that you think you'll need in the car, from fresh fruit to swimming toys and even board games to stay entertained if the weather isn't great. Have a lovely stay and let me know if you enjoy it too!
